Jacob Ng

Praised for his “musical intelligence and strong stage presence” (Opera Today), Hong Kong bass-baritone Jacob Ng has made a name for himself as a “superb bass-baritone [that] comes to the fore” (musicOMH). In 2023 summer, Jacob made his debut at Buxton International Festival performing the role of Alessio and Count Rodolfo as cover (La sonnambula) conducted by Adrian Kelly.

Other 22/23 operatic appearances include Ford (Sir John in Love) at Opera Holland Park with British Youth Opera, Claudio (Agrippina), Mandarin in Turandot, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, Escamillo in Carmen, Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola and Rudolf in Der Wald.

Opera highlights of previous seasons include the title role of Le nozze di Figaro with Orquesta Sinfónica de Michoacán in Morelia, Uberto in La Serva Padrona and Gil in Il segreto di Susanna at Teatro Don Pedro V in Macau and Masetto in Don Giovanni at State Opera Varna and Hong Kong City Hall.

For the 2023/24 season Jacob was supported vocally through the National Opera Studio’s Diverse Voices Programme. A recent graduate of Wales International Academy of Voice, Jacob first trained as a lyric baritone at Royal College of Music, where he received his Master of Performance and Bachelor of Music degrees. He was a Britten Pears Young Artist and won the Third Prize in the Piemonte Opera Voci Dal Mondo International Singing Competition in 2019.
