Sandeep Gurrapadi

Sandeep Gurrapadi is an Indian-American operatic tenor and Interdisciplinary Performance Artist, known for his work as a Devised Theatre Maker, Workshop Facilitator, Doctoral Researcher, Educator, and Composer. His career spans classical performance and interdisciplinary artistic projects across the globe.

Sandeep has performed as a soloist in notable venues such as the Beijing National Stadium, the Britten Pears Foundation, the National Center of Performing Arts and the Royal Opera House of Mumbai, the Southbank Centre in London, and the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. In 2022, he made his debut with Welsh National Opera as ‘Roberto’ in Shoemaker and was invited for an artist residency with the Britten Pears Foundation at Snape Maltings. He covered the role of Clockkeeper in the acclaimed opera Violet at the Aldeburgh Festival with the London Sinfonietta, and originated leading roles in Witchfinder by Cohere Arts, Meal One by 509 Arts, and Silver Spoon by Keynote Opera.

In 2023, Sandeep performed at the National Gallery, London as part of the Myra Hess recitals, and then embarked on a five-city recital tour across India, culminating in a performance at the Royal Opera House of Mumbai, which featured a collaboration with acclaimed sculptor Raj Shahani. That same year, Sandeep joined English Touring Opera’s Autumn Season, performing in The Coronation of Poppea (Monteverdi) and Cinderella (Rossini), and portrayed Everyman in a new community opera by Tim Brooks for the Freedom Festival in Hull. He completed another residency with Britten Pears Arts, portraying Neti in Orlando Descends by theatre maker Anna-Helena McLean, and led open devising workshops in Genoa, Italy as part of the ACT International Residencies. He also performed alongside renowned baritone Roderick Williams at the Aldeburgh Festival.

In 2024, Sandeep continued with English Touring Opera in their Spring Season, performing in Rake’s Progress (Stravinsky) and Manon Lescaut (Puccini). He took on the role of Joseph Bazelgette in English Touring Opera’s children’s production The Great Stink and portrayed Jason in Medea by Thee Black Swan Opera Company at the Cockpit Theatre. He was also invited to perform Benjamin Britten’s Curlew River at the Aldeburgh Festival and served as the Tenor Soloist for Gabriel Nune’s Missa Pastoril with the Hertford Choral Society and Orchestra Serafine Sinfonia.

Sandeep has worked with organisations such as English National Opera (Baylis), Trinity Laban Conservatoire, Streetwise Opera, and Singapore Raffles Music College. As a contemporary classical music specialist, he has premiered works at festivals including Tête à Tête, Grimeborn, Beaumaris, the London Festival of American Music, and the Aldeburgh Festival.
